This foundational course was created to support all Providence Health Care staff in understanding the importance of Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS), Indigenous-Specific Anti-Racism, and Cultural Humility across the organization. Through historical context, real-world examples, and guiding frameworks, the course addresses how colonialism, systemic racism, and White supremacy have shaped the Canadian health care system—and how these forces continue to harm Indigenous patients, families, and communities today.

This course encourages viewers to reflect on their own roles, biases, and responsibilities, and to begin (or deepen) a personal and professional journey of learning, unlearning, and action. It outlines how Providence is working to embed ICS into all levels of care and operations, and calls upon staff to take active steps toward equity, safety, and respect in their work.

They are part of an evolving journey to ensure that Providence is a place where Indigenous people receive safe, equitable, and culturally respectful care.
