The course is designed for nurses working at Richmond Hospital, who will provide care to patients/clients experiencing alcohol withdrawal. 

This course covers:

• Signs and symptoms of alcohol withdrawal 
• How to identify patients who may be experiencing alcohol dependency and/or be at risk of alcohol withdrawal 
• Use of the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol, revised (CIWA-Ar) flowsheet to rate alcohol withdrawal severity 
• The CIWA-Ar protocol to monitor and treat patients experiencing alcohol withdrawal 
• How to utilize the CIWA-Ar protocol in a manner that supports cultural safety, harm reduction, and trauma-informed practice
