As of December 3, 2025, the Independent Rights Advice Service (IRAS) will become a legal requirement to be provided to people certified under BC’s Mental Health Act.  This course is designed to facilitate understanding of the new Independent Rights Advisor Services (IRAS), the new legal requirements for involuntary admission, and the newly added legal forms required to lawfully provide care in a designated facility.

The following topics will be reviewed: 

• Introduction to the Independent Rights Advice Service and it's legal requirement under the Mental Health Act
• Staff responsibilities and workflow
• The new and updated Mental Health Act Forms
• Resources, tools, and supports for implementation
